I worked with a women used to think that she couldn’t workout in the morning because she needed to sit with her coffee before she worked out and therefore didn’t have time afterwards. Because of this belief, she wasn’t able to exercise, as doing it after work didn’t work for her schedule either.

I asked her what would happen if she worked out first and had her coffee after? She shrugged and said she guessed she’d be able to get her workout in. I then asked her if she would still be able to enjoy her coffee afterward? She thought about that for a moment and with a grin on her face she replied, yes, maybe even more so knowing I got my workout in.

What a powerful realization. She lifted this limiting belief and made exercise a priority, thus creating a new routine for herself that supported her weight loss goal. If you haven’t noticed yet, making mind shifts is a big part of success. Are your thoughts working for you or against you?

“When I’m stressed, I need sugar.”

“I have to take care of everyone else before I take care of myself.”

A limiting belief is a false perception we tell ourselves that keeps us from success and moving forward. We ALL have them in one area or another.

“I don’t have time to workout.”

I challenge you to begin to build awareness on where you’re interjecting limiting beliefs in your life. Start with identifying blocks, barriers or challenges that are getting in the way of you reaching your weight loss goals.

What is the story around those?

Is the story true?

Could it look a different way? No but really, could it?

How flexible are you being?

Are you attached to something “needing” to look a certain way?

Or are you “shoulding” yourself, causing added stress, blocks and sabotage?

Retraining our brain takes a lot of work and awareness. It is one of the most important things I do when health coaching clients. How can we move forward and solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them in the first place? We can’t.
